The Number Bees, aka bookkeepers, are here to work hard and efficiently to get your books on track and working for you.

Meet the team:

Shayla Garcia

Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, I spent much of my youth exploring the beautiful Rocky Mountains. My husband and I have lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Portland, Oregon and in 2012 we moved to Munich, Germany. In 2016 we returned to Portland with our newborn daughter. We now reside on an acre of land with plentiful blackberries. Since 2022 we have been raising chickens and have 3 resident goats to help tame the wild blackberries. I love balancing time between my family, our mini-farm, my bookkeeping practice and reading.

I have worked with many small businesses since 2003; ranging from single employee enterprises to medium-sized firms.  Across the board, I saw the hardship each business owner had keeping up with daily cash flow and knowing their true financial position. Although these business owners were doing a great job in their trade, they were not always keeping up with their financials. In 2017 I started this bookkeeping practice with the aim of helping small businesses outsource their bookkeeping, utilize new technology solutions effectively and to build a woman-operated business supporting other women. In 2021, I met that goal by bringing on an additional lady bookkeeper! I am thrilled to provide this opportunity for growth to these other women and bring enhanced, personal service for my clients.

Before joining Natural Choice Bookkeeping and Consulting, I’ve worked in dentistry and the hearing aid industry. From my viewpoint, owners and their employees were more focused on their specialty when they were assured that their finances were left in trusted hands. They were able to provide the quality service and care they wanted for their patients and customers.

Ever since I moved from California to Portland, OR, my admiration for nature and all things green flourished. When I’m not crunching numbers, you can find me sipping on some milk tea while struggling with a gouache painting, or singing while strumming the chords on a ukulele to a new song (just picking it up!) In recent years I’ve acquired an explosive plant collection. Sometimes, I love to start my mornings by inspecting them to see if they’ve made any changes overnight. I can’t even explain the excitement it brings me to see a leaf peak through, and I find the same way when I see growth in your business!
